How do you see reality?

December 4, 2016

Dilbert‘s Scott Adams says our brains are not good at seeing reality, but only at seeing a “movie” in our minds that is good enough to keep us alive long enough to reproduce. I’ll assume that’s true.

It’s why different people see the same thing in such different ways.

Well, that’s great but the “movie” playing in the heads of statists is incompatible with the movie playing inside healthy minds. Yes, it keeps them alive long enough to reproduce, so it “works”.

I would be perfectly fine leaving statists alone to play their statism game, but they can’t bother to return the favor. They are uncivilized brutes who demand everyone play the game their way or die. That just won’t work.

I don’t care what “movie” they see as long as they don’t put it into action by archating, and when they do initiate force and violate property rights, it doesn’t matter that the reason they do is because of the way they see reality. Anyone still has an absolute right to defend their life, liberty, and property from anyone seeking to violate it, for any reason.

Rule yourself

October 11, 2016

There are those who prefer the idea of autarchy over anarchy. I believe they are basically the same thing- if you have no king, then you rule yourself… which means you are your own king.

Get your own crown

The only “problem” with the word “anarchy” is that bad guys have used the word to describe their non-anarchist acts, and other bad guys embraced and spread the misinformation. Not much you can do about that, besides use the word correctly when you use it.

Maybe the word “autarchy” has less baggage (not none), but if it started being talked about, it would gather baggage very quickly. I don’t really see much point in abandoning a word you like to use due to baggage. But, whatever.

None of that changes the basic fact: You are the rightful king of your own life- including of your liberty and property. No one else has a higher claim on it, and if they try to act as if they do, they are the bad guys. It doesn’t matter if they call themselves “the police” or the mayor, or anything else. No one else has a legitimate claim on your life, liberty, or property unless it is due to a debt you took on. You can’t take on a debt by being born in a particular place, or by a gang coming together to assign a debt to you.

Those who believe they can create a debt for you to owe, against your will, or without you archating, are liars. Don’t fall for their lies.

If you let someone rule you, they are probably going to violate you in some way, and they will definitely have you violating someone on their behalf- even if it is just through your silence in the face of the evil they do to others.

Anarchist, Voluntaryist, abolitionist, autarchist, libertarian… whatever you call yourself doesn’t really matter, as long as you don’t archate, and don’t support or excuse those who do. You are your own king. Be a good one.

Stupidity has consequences

September 20, 2016

If you ignore the existence of gravity, there will be consequences. You may not be around to learn your lesson.

The same goes for ignoring the Zero Aggression Principle. Everyone is subject to it, whether they “accept” it or not. You archate; there will be consequences. And, you may not survive to learn your lesson.

I know it seems there are a lot of people who not only survive, but thrive while ignoring the ZAP and property rights. And you’re right. But there are still consequences. Look how many archators end up being violated in the same way they violated others.

Even if the only consequence is being recognized for what they are by nobodies like me, it is still a consequence, and I know from personal experience that it eats at them when they are aware of it.

Initiating force and violating property is its own special kind of stupidity. You and I can see it. I hope you will point it out to those who don’t see it. Maybe eventually, they’ll see it, too.

Weekly CNJ column

September 9, 2016

It is in the paper, with the headline “Prohibition dangerous as addiction“, but they haven’t put it online yet.
And may not.
If they do, I’ll link it here and in its own post.
If not, you can read it in a month (unless you have a subscription to the paper, then you can still read it now).

UPDATE: It’s up.

I see nothing wrong with Joel’s idea of interior decorating, nor with his laundry. It all looks good to me! What do you think?

Freedom vs Liberty

April 9, 2013

Freedom is sex; Liberty is consensual sex.
Freedom is violence; Liberty is defensive violence.
Freedom is making a profit; Liberty is making a profit honestly.

OK.  What others can you think of?

The "gateway drug" of "gun rights"

February 9, 2013

Gun rights are a primary gateway drug for liberty.  For some people religion fills that role.  Or something else.  Everyone has their hot button.

For me, it was a combination of gun rights, property rights, and love for the environment.

But, back to gun rights.  What I see happen frequently is that (intelligent) people who are passionate about gun rights come to see that it depends on all the other rights.  Liberty can’t be dissected.

The biggest dangers to gun rights have been the War on Politically Incorrect Drugs and The War on a Scary Emotion… I mean “Terror“.

What people see is that supporting these nonsensical violations of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness only whittles away on the liberty to own and to carry weapons, including ANY weapon owned (or deployed) by any employee of The State.  (Yes, I mean “nukes” as well.  If you shouldn’t have one in your garage, then the US Government shouldn’t have any either.  And, if everyone had to pay for their own nukes out of their own pockets, I doubt you’d see anyone having them anyway.  End tangent.)

Concern for the fundamental human right to own and to carry weapons- and particularly the collectivist drive to demonize that right- serves to wake up a lot of people.  “If government extremists are wrong on this, what else might they be wrong about?”  And thinking people will then look into that question and discover that the government extremists are wrong about everything.  They’ll be addicted to liberty from that moment on.

Free market supporter?

If you are a supporter of the War on (some) Drugs, you are an enemy of the free market.
